Plaque, tartar, and tooth decay

Dental plaque is a biofilm consisting of food particles and bacteria, among other things, and is also known as plaque. If the plaque remains for a longer period, minerals are deposited and tartar forms. This can lead to tooth decay and inflammation of the periodontal tissues, which can cause pain and ultimately result in tooth loss.

Misaligned teeth create areas that are difficult to clean

It is therefore not surprising that plaque forms primarily in areas that are difficult for a toothbrush to reach. These are often the spaces between the teeth, which require additional cleaning with dental floss or an interdental brush. However, misaligned teeth can make cleaning significantly more difficult. In some cases, even interdental cleaners may not reach all areas. Consequently, the risk of plaque and tooth decay is increased in cases of misaligned teeth.
